Coup d'etat in France 1851?

I am reading about Hugo Volt who wrote 'Napolean the little' which is extremely biased and satirical against him but I am wondering why Hugo Volt fled the country after the coup d'etat. Why did he have to leave? what did the coup do to make people leave the country and why does Hugo Volt hate Napolean so much?
